Pump station Commissioning and Service
At Solid Links, we like to stress the importance of having your new pump station commissioned and regularly serviced.
Pump Station Commissioning
On all new pump stations we supply to the mainland UK, we offer a commissioning service. Even though it is perfectly acceptable for a customer to commission a new pump station themselves without affecting the warranty terms, we do insist that the unit is correctly set up.
When any pump station, small or large, is supplied, all the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) equipment is supplied separately. This is so that the M&E equipment is not damaged during transportation or installation of the chamber.
We would normally keep hold of the M&E equipment in the warehouse and then deliver it to the site when the customer is ready to have the pump station commissioned. This means the equipment is kept dry and safe, which is not always the case if it is kept on a construction site.
Within the commissioning package, we do include a lot more than our competitors offer. We carry out the following:
- Fit the control panel to the wall or kiosk
- Connect the control panel to your adjacent power supply
- Connect the chains to the pumps
- Install the cable within the cable duct
- Install the pumps within the chamber
- Install and set the floats
- Extend the cables (if required)
- Test the pumps and floats
- Test the operation of the control panel
- Test the high-level alarm
- Carry out an earth leakage test
- Carry out a resistance test
- Issue a detailed commissioning report
Our 12-month warranty period for the M&E equipment, unlike most of our competitors, starts once the system has been commissioned, rather than from the day the chamber was delivered.
Pump Station Servicing/Maintenance
We do offer a service agreement for the complete range of pump stations we offer. This would involve a service engineer visiting the site every 6 to 12 months (depending on the size and type of pump station installed).
The engineer’s duties include, but are not restricted to:
- Check the pumps are operational in both manual & auto modes
- Check that every float switch is operational
- Check they are not contaminated with grease or other debris
- Check pumps are secure visually
- Ensure the high-level alarm is operational
- Remove any large objects which may have found their way into the chamber
- Check panel is secure.
- Ensure the control panel is fully functional

Benefits of a “bespoke” pump station design over “off-the-shelf” systems
Not many applications involving a pump station are the same. Everything from the chamber size to the pumping distances/lifts will differ from site to site, even if it is only a slight change.
Why is maintenance required for pump stations?
Maintenance of underground pumping stations is an important aspect of ensuring efficient and effective operation. Pumping stations are an important part of wastewater and surface water management. It collects water and sewage from low-lying areas and pumps it upstream to the mains foul sewer or discharge point.
